I am one of 170 million Americans that are standing up to defend funding for public broadcasting. Our nation's 1,300 local public radio and television stations continue to present the best in news, educational and cultural programming available to every American, free of charge, 24 hours a day -- all for $1.35 per citizen in annual federal funding. Local stations take that $1.35 and match it six times over with funds from other sources.  Yet, funding for public broadcasting remains under attack. We must remind our elected officials that public broadcasting is not a luxury. Public broadcasting is an essential public service depended upon by 170 million Americans, more than half the U.S. population, every month.  New attacks on this funding are expected in the coming year.
